The department of Journalism & Mass Communication embarked its glorious journey with General courses in 2005 and started offering simultaneously Honours from 2007.The department has been successfully producing many media professionals who are working in national and regional media institutions (ABP ANANDA, TV 9 BANGLA, BARTAMAN, EI SAMAY, GANASHAKTI), Entertainment field (Tips Industries), digital platforms (ABP ONLINE, 24 GHANTA ONLINE) and Government sectors (PIB and Metro Railway).
Not only in media but academically also the department has been successfully bringing out many a JRF research scholars who are pursuing their researches under the University of Calcutta and Jadavpur University.

The department has a sound technical back up with ample computers and two separate media labs, one dedicated individually for print and web journalism and the other for audio visual editing; along with this the department also proudly possesses a provisional merited sound proof audio recording and editing studio.

To showcase the journalistic endeavours of the budding scribes, the department brought out its Lab Journal WORDS like every year, which was published on February 2024 .

Like every year, in 2023 too, the department organized the Parents - Teachers Meeting on 16th December 2023 with almost 100 percent attendance from the parents’ side.
Seminars
1. On 29th November 2023, the department celebrated National Press Day on 16th November by organising a workshop on 'Identifying Fake News - Fight against misinformation’under the supervision of Mr. Pulakesh Ghosh, Trainer, Google News Initiative. The session was followed by a post lunch students’ PPT presentation.

2.This year on 16th November 2024, the National Press Day was celebrated by hosting a seminar titled 'The Future of Print and Broadcast Journalism in the Digital Age' withDr. Biswajit Das, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Maharaja Manindra College and also an eminent RJ on Akashvani as well as a Political Analyst on leading Bengali TV news channels.

Cultural Activities Other Than Academic Curriculum
TEACHERS’ DAY CELEBRATION: The students of the department, out of their own initiative celebrated Teachers' Day on 5th September 2024, replete with the warmth of their love and regards.
DEPARTMENTAL PICNIC: On 8th December 2023 department organized a picnic with the students of the present batches at Deganga. Few pass outs of the unit also joined and rendered an essence of reunion to the event.
