Fifth Uttara Chakraborty Memorial Lecture
The Department of History, Vidyasagar College, in collaboration with the Women’s History Conclave, organised the Fifth Uttara Chakraborty Memorial Lecture on 11 December 2025 at the Sabhaghar. The lecture was delivered by Professor Anindita Ghosh of the University of Manchester on the topic, “The City and its Women: Violence, Sexuality and the Urban Order in Nineteenth Century Calcutta.”
The lecture was attended by teachers and students of the Department of History, along with participants from several other academic institutions. Professor Ghosh’s insightful lecture explored the complex relationship between gender, violence and sexuality in nineteenth-century Calcutta. The programme provided an engaging academic platform for discussion on women’s history and the social history of the city. The number of participants was 100.
